23 April 2001 - Broadcasters have traditionally asked the question "WHAT DATA?", meaning "Is there data in my signal?" Now when they ask the question they need to know the details of this content. With the growing popularity of interactive TV they are suddenly concerned about legal and business ramifications of the data signal they offer the public.
Today, at NAB2001 in Las Vegas, Norpak Corporation launched its new WHAZ-itTM Monitor - a downstream content auditing solution that address this problem. WHAZ-it allows all those involved in the TV business chain, from content creators through network operators to local stations to see exactly what embedded content is reaching the viewer.
The data is interpreted and logged into a Microsoft Access database from which a wide variety of reports can be generated, including activity by time, by channel, by domain name, etc. Standard Microsoft database tools allow the end user to generate any report and view data logged by WHAZ-it. Reports will find use in legal and commercial applications based on verification of broadcast data integrity and certification of data transmission.
With WHAZ-it television operators can, for example, analyze the ubiquitous line 21 signal that now includes not only captions but also VChip, TSID, XDS and interactive TV data.
Norpak Corporation provides all required tools, such as the TTX83X, TTX85X and TTX870 receivers for single channel data monitoring, as well as the CHS800, CHS802 and CHS816 receiver platforms for multi channel data monitoring.
