Digital functionalities being added to set-top boxes and
Market plays in relation to set-top boxes (3MAR00) (PRN)
(alternate link)
The news announcement quotes Robertson Stephens analyst Arnab K. Chanda as stating,
"We see a lot of interesting digital functionalities being added to different set-top boxes,
for example, the ability to digitally record programs simply using a hard drive that a company like TiVo,
for example, provides, and possibly the ability to become a platform for the TV home page of the
consumer. There is talk of embedding Internet and DVD functionality in Sony's new Playstation II.
So we are seeing a lot of enabling technologies become part of all this opportunity."
