Free ISP For PCs Broadcasts TV Commercials: GoConnect plays television ads via GoTrek application on free ISP for PCs
in Australia (20FEB01) (IT)
I.T. quotes GoConnect managing director David Tam as describing GoTrek as something that came out of "what do we need to
have on the Internet to get some serious money" instead of using conventional banner ads. I.T. goes on to quote Tam as stating,
"Television is the most expensive and lucrative form of advertising. I thought that if we could get a share of that, then we had a
chance of serious revenue. If we couldn't get it, then there was no point of being in the game at all."
Winfire does something similar in the US for its FreeDSL subscribers. And the free NetZero dial-up ISP in the US
also ocassionally plays a TV commercial, video, or flash animation on a small "NZTV" screen during the login process. The free
Spinway-BlueLight dial-up ISP in an early version of its software before it was bought out by Kmart also played a TV commercial
for Kmart during the login in the US.
